I used to trade manually. I'd set up a position, watch the chart, and wait.

Then I'd go to bed. And at 2am I'd wake up, check my phone, see a 4% drop, and panic sell. By morning it had recovered. Every time.
Or worse — I'd see a massive green candle at midnight and FOMO into a position at the top. By morning it had pulled back. Every time.

The pattern was always the same: the trades I made when I was tired, emotional, or reacting to a sudden move were consistently my worst trades. The trades I planned carefully and executed patiently were my best.
This is the actual reason automated trading exists. Not because algorithms are smarter than humans — they're not. They can't read news, they can't sense market sentiment, they can't adapt to a black swan event.

But they have one massive advantage: they don't panic. They don't get greedy. They don't wake up at 2am and make a decision they regret by morning.
An algorithm follows its rules. If the rules say "buy at this level," it buys at that level. If the rules say "wait for recovery," it waits — for hours, days, weeks if necessary. No emotion. No ego.

I've been building an automated trading system for the past year. Not because I think I can build a perfect algorithm — I can't. But because I know my own psychology is the biggest risk in my portfolio, and removing myself from the decision loop has made my trading more consistent than it ever was manually.
Has every trade been a winner? Absolutely not. I have positions right now that have been open for weeks, waiting for recovery. That's the reality. But the panic sells at 2am? Those are gone.
