Grayscale quietly expands its crypto ETF watchlist 👀

Grayscale has taken an early, behind-the-scenes step toward broadening its crypto investment lineup by registering new Delaware statutory trusts linked to BNB and HYPE, according to state records. These trusts were set up on Thursday with CSC Delaware Trust Company as the registered agent.

It’s important to note: this is not an ETF application and comes with no regulatory approval. Delaware trust formation is typically a preparatory move — a way for asset managers to be ready if and when they decide to file with the US SEC.

What stands out is the asset choice. Most US-listed crypto ETFs still focus on Bitcoin and Ethereum, with only limited altcoin exposure. Adding BNB and Hyperliquid (HYPE) hints at Grayscale’s interest in expanding beyond the usual large-cap names.

Grayscale hasn’t confirmed whether ETF filings are coming, and it didn’t respond to media inquiries. Still, the timing is notable. The firm recently said ETF outflows are largely tax-driven and shared a bullish outlook for 2026, citing expected regulatory clarity and renewed institutional demand.

This comes despite over $1B in redemptions from spot BTC and ETH ETFs so far this January, while altcoin ETFs have seen smaller but more stable inflows.

HYPE’s inclusion is especially interesting. Hyperliquid, the protocol behind it, dominated decentralized perpetuals trading for much of 2025, even though competition picked up toward year-end.

Overall, this looks like early groundwork, but it signals that institutional crypto exposure may slowly expand beyond just Bitcoin and Ether.
