#Pennsylvania Bill Seeks to Restrict Crypto #Holdings for Public Officials

According to PANews, Pennsylvania Representative Ben Waxman has introduced #Bill HB1812, which aims to impose strict rules on cryptocurrency ownership by public officials. The proposal would prohibit current officials and their immediate family members from holding, trading, or promoting cryptocurrencies in which they have a financial interest during their term, as well as for one year after leaving office.

The bill requires officials to divest any cryptocurrency holdings within 90 days of assuming office. Those found in violation could face penalties of up to $50,000 and a maximum prison sentence of five years, underscoring the seriousness of the measure.

This legislative effort comes in response to growing scrutiny over alleged conflicts of interest, particularly following reports about U.S. President Donald Trump and his family profiting from cryptocurrency-related projects. Lawmakers argue the restrictions are necessary to ensure transparency, reduce corruption risks, and restore public trust in the political system.

If passed, Pennsylvania would become one of the first U.S. states to enforce such strict crypto ethics rules for public officials, potentially setting a precedent for other states and even federal legislation.
