The American Petroleum Institute (API) reported a significant increase in U.S. crude oil inventories last week, rising by 13.4 million barrels. This was accompanied by a build at the key Cushing, Oklahoma hub of 1.4 million barrels.

In refined products, inventories were mixed. Gasoline stocks increased by 3.3 million barrels, while distillate fuels (including diesel and heating oil) saw a draw of 2.0 million barrels.

The large crude build suggests weaker demand or higher supply, which typically exerts downward pressure on oil prices.
