Israel Plans Massive Invasion of Southern Lebanon "Like Gaza"
Israel is planning to seize the entire area south of Lebanon's Litani River.
It could be the largest ground invasion since 2006.
A senior Israeli official told Axios, "We are going to do what we did in Gaza."
That means flattening buildings Hezbollah uses to store weapons and launch attacks.
The goal is clear.
Take territory. Push Hezbollah north.
Dismantle military positions and weapons depots in villages .
This shift happened fast.
Until recently, Israel was trying to contain Lebanon and focus on Iran.
Then Wednesday changed everything.
Hezbollah launched more than 200 rockets in a coordinated attack with Iran .
"Before this attack we were ready for a ceasefire in Lebanon, but after it there is no way back from a massive operation," an official said .
The IDF is now reinforcing troops and mobilizing reserves.
Three infantry and armored divisions are already stationed on the border .
Evacuation orders have been issued across southern Lebanon and, for the first time, to towns north of the Litani River. Around 800,000 Lebanese civilians have been displaced.
At least 773 people have been killed .
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem responded directly.
"When the enemy threatens a ground invasion, we tell him: this is not a threat, but one of the traps you will fall into," he said .
The Trump administration supports the operation but asked Israel not to bomb Beirut's airport.
Israel agreed to spare the airport but not other infrastructure. "We feel we have full U.S. backing," an Israeli official said
