The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has officially classified $ETH , $BTC and others as a digital commodity not a security in its groundbreaking new crypto asset taxonomy framework.
The classification means $ETH derives its primary value from the programmatic functioning of the Ethereum network and market supply/demand dynamics, rather than from any expectation of profits driven by the essential managerial efforts of others (per the Howey test).
