I was looking at NIGHT's supply numbers the other day and something caught my attention.

Total supply is fixed at 24 billion. No new tokens will ever be created. That part is simple.

But then I saw something called disinflationary in their docs and had to dig deeper.

What disinflationary actually means

Most people hear disinflationary and think it means the same as deflationary. It doesn't.

Deflationary means supply goes down over time. Tokens get burned. Less supply exists tomorrow than today.

Disinflationary means the rate of new supply decreases over time until it hits zero. Then it stops.

Bitcoin does this. Every four years, the mining reward gets cut in half. The flow of new Bitcoin slows down until eventually no more will be created.

$NIGHT follows a similar logic but with a twist.

How NIGHT's supply works

The 24 billion supply is already fully accounted for. No mining. No staking rewards creating new tokens. Nothing being added.

The disinflationary part comes from how DUST interacts with NIGHT.

When you hold NIGHT, it generates DUST. DUST decays over time if you don't use it. This decay mechanism creates a natural balancing effect.

Here's what I realized.

If too many people hold NIGHT and never transact, DUST builds up. The decay mechanism slowly eats away unused DUST. This prevents hoarding of network resources.

If the network gets busy and DUST gets used quickly, the generation rate stays steady. No artificial scarcity. No sudden supply shocks.

A friend asked me why they didn't just make NIGHT deflationary like some other tokens. Burn a percentage of every transaction. Supply goes down. Price goes up.

I told him those models look good on paper but create weird incentives. When every transaction burns tokens, people stop transacting. They hold instead. The network dies from inactivity.

NIGHT's approach is different. You're not punished for using the network. You're not rewarded for hoarding. You just hold, generate DUST, use it, and the system keeps running.
