Iran said on Sunday that it will not give up after President Donald Trump warned he might attack Iran’s electricity system within 48 hours. Iran said that if this happens, it will hit important facilities in the region in return.
This exchange of threats shows that the three-week war is becoming more serious. There is now a risk that both sides will attack civilian systems like power, water, and technology.
An Iranian military spokesman, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, said that if Iran’s energy systems are attacked, Iran will target energy, IT, and water plants linked to the US and its allies in the region.
Many countries in the region depend on special plants that turn seawater into drinking water. Countries like Bahrain and Qatar get all their drinking water this way, and United Arab Emirates uses it for most of its water.
Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, warned that attacking Iran’s power plants could cause permanent damage to energy systems across the Middle East.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, spoke more calmly. He said Iran has not yet blocked shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for global oil transport.
However, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that this route could stay closed until Iran repairs its damaged power plants.
Fighting between Iran and Israel continued overnight. Many people were injured in missile attacks on towns in southern Israel.
Because of rising tensions, world leaders are trying to calm the situation. Emmanuel Macron asked all sides to stop attacking energy and civilian systems and urged Iran to keep shipping routes open.
Since February 28, more than 2,000 people have died in the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. The war has affected global markets, increased fuel prices, and raised fears of a bigger regional war. #TrumpConsidersEndingIranConflict #IranAttackIsrael
