Trying to Understand Midnight Without Getting Lost in the Usual Crypto Illusions
I was sitting with a friend the other night, the kind of conversation where crypto always sneaks in, and he asked me something simple that turned complicated fast: “Do any of these projects actually protect users, or is it all just talk?” That question stayed with me, and somehow it led me into exploring Midnight.
At first glance, Midnight’s idea sounds familiar—privacy, ownership, control—but I’ve heard those words too many times to take them at face value. What made me pause, though, is its focus on zero-knowledge proofs, not as a buzzword, but as a structural layer for how data moves without being exposed. That’s different, at least in intention.
Most projects chase transparency and forget that users don’t always want to be visible. Midnight seems to question that assumption. Still, I’m not fully convinced. The design is thoughtful, but in crypto, thoughtful ideas don’t always survive contact with reality.
