Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has revealed that the United States is ready to finalize high-level security guarantees for Ukraine — but with a major condition.
According to him, the deal would require Ukraine to fully withdraw from the Donbas region (Donetsk & Luhansk) and effectively hand it over to Russia as part of a peace agreement.
Zelenskiy warned that this would mean giving up Ukraine’s strongest defensive positions, which could seriously weaken both Ukraine’s and Europe’s long-term security.
Interestingly, the U.S. security guarantees document was reportedly “100% ready” back in January 2026, but now needs revision. He linked the delay to Trump’s push for a rapid end to the war.
While expressing gratitude for recent Patriot air defense support, Zelenskiy emphasized that it is still far from enough.
