Martti Malmi – The Man Who Lost 55,000 Bitcoins
Finnish developer, joined Bitcoin in 2009, worked directly with Satoshi Nakamoto.
Created the first Bitcoin GUI and helped run bitcoin.org.
Early miner, accumulated about 55,000 BTC.
In 2009, sold 5,050 BTC for $5.02 (first BTC-to-fiat trade).
Later sold all 55,000 BTC (2012–2013) for around $300,000.
Average selling price was only a few dollars per Bitcoin.
His reasoning:
He wanted to buy a house and secure some financial stability.
He did not believe Bitcoin would become as huge as it is today.
By the time he sold, his average selling price was only a few dollars per BTC.
He ended up making roughly $300,000 in total from selling his Bitcoin.
At today’s prices, that stash would be worth billions.
Malmi says he has no regrets, proud to have helped Bitcoin succeed.

Malmi publicly acknowledged that he “missed out on unimaginable wealth”, but he never expressed regret.
Instead, he said he is proud of helping Bitcoin succeed, regardless of his personal financial loss.
