Hackathons usually come with a lot of hype, but most of them don’t lead to anything meaningful. What stands out with Sign Protocol is that people are actually building and shipping real applications, not just demos. Events like Bhutan’s NDI hackathon, where 13+ apps were developed around digital identity, make it feel more grounded.

The structure also matters. There’s guidance, documentation, and some level of mentorship, which is rare. Most hackathons feel chaotic, with rushed ideas and little long-term value. Here, the process itself seems more valuable than the outcome.

That said, it’s not perfect. Most projects still won’t survive beyond the event. But when people are testing real tech and solving actual problems, it becomes easier to see who is serious.

I don’t follow hype. I watch what people build — that tells me everything.
