You Think One Thing, But Do Another — What’s the Real Problem?

By Shahid Syed | NLP Master

Last night, you decided:

“From tomorrow, I’ll wake up early. I’ll eat properly. I’ll finally start that task I’ve been delaying for months.”

And this morning?

You turned off the alarm.

Changed sides.

Went back to sleep.

In the evening, you ate the same way again.

That task? Postponed once more.

And at night, you went to bed with a strange restlessness:

“I know what I need to do… so why don’t I do it?”

This is not weakness.

This is not laziness.

And it’s not entirely your fault — at least not in the way you think.

The real problem is much deeper. And today, we’ll look at it.

Some time ago, a man came to me. Around 35 years old. His face carried that exhaustion that comes from being disappointed in yourself.

He said:

“I don’t understand what’s wrong with me. Every day I plan what I’ll do… but the day passes, and nothing happens. I’ve read books, watched YouTube, taken courses — I understand everything. But when it’s time to act, something inside stops me. I’ve started seeing myself as weak.”

I listened carefully.

Then I asked,

“Kamran, right before you sit down to do the task — what happens in that exact moment?”

He paused. Thought. Then said:

“There’s a strange anxiety… like something isn’t right.”

I said,

“That’s it. That’s the real place.”

Inside you, there are two different systems:

One that thinks, plans, dreams, and makes decisions.

This is your conscious mind — the voice that says, “From tomorrow, everything will change.”
