You wake up one day and realize your $BTC wallet might not be protected by time anymore.

Google researchers reportedly found a way to make Shor’s algorithm nearly 20x more efficient. That means a future quantum computer with around 500,000 qubits could potentially crack Bitcoin private keys in just 9 minutes.

Nine minutes.

That is almost the same as a Bitcoin block time.

If that happens, you are no longer just worrying about hacks. You are worrying about attackers watching the mempool, grabbing your transaction, and breaking your key before your transfer is even confirmed.

The part that should really get your attention? The timeline may have moved up from the mid-2030s to around 2029.

And Google did something unusual: they did not release the full method, only proof that it exists. That usually means the breakthrough is real enough to keep quiet.

My take: you should not panic, but you should stop acting like quantum risk is “someone else’s problem.” The race has already started. Bitcoin, Ethereum, wallets, exchanges, every project will need post-quantum upgrades faster than most people expect.

By the time everyone starts talking about it, you may already be late. ⚠️
