France Names Risk of War with Russia as Main Challenge for Its Armed Forces
The possibility of an open war with Russia remains the primary concern for France’s military planning, Chief of the General Staff of the French Armed Forces Fabien Mandon said during a parliamentary defense committee hearing.
“The persistence of the Russian threat on our continent, including the possibility of open war, remains my main concern in terms of preparing the army,” Mandon stated.
He noted that earlier warnings about a potential “shock in three to four years” are based on intelligence assessments rather than speculation.
