I used to think rewards in crypto were just a bonus… something extra on top of the experience. But lately, I’ve realized they do something deeper.
The other day, I opened a Web3 game I don’t even enjoy that much anymore, just to claim a daily reward. That moment hit me hard. I wasn’t playing for fun, I was just showing up so I wouldn’t “miss out.”
That’s when it clicked.
Rewards don’t just pay you… they shape how you behave.
You start logging in on schedule, chasing streaks, optimizing every move. Slowly, it stops being about curiosity and starts becoming routine. And the scary part? You don’t even notice when it happens.
I’ve seen it everywhere. When rewards are strong, communities are active. When they slow down, everything gets quiet. Makes you wonder… were people there for the product, or just the payout?
Don’t get me wrong, rewards are powerful. They pull us in, they keep us engaged. But I’m starting to ask myself a different question now:
Would I still be here if there were no rewards?
That answer says everything.
