IRAN WANTS BITCOIN FOR SHIPS PASSING THROUGH OIL ROUTES.
Iran may start charging ships in Bitcoin to pass through the Strait of Hormuz - the route used for around 20% of the world’s oil.
They call it “Hormuz Safe,” a government-backed shipping insurance system.
Payments would be made only in Bitcoin, not dollars.
This could bring Iran about $10 billion and help them avoid U.S. sanctions and the SWIFT banking system.
After years of sanctions, Iran is using the one thing it already controls - the world’s biggest oil chokepoint.
