Cross-Chain Danger: Inside the $11.5M Verus Bridge Exploit
Another major bridge exploit shakes the crypto space!
The Verus-Ethereum Bridge was hit by an active exploit, draining ~$11.5 million in crypto assets, according to Blockaid and PeckShield.
The attacker grabbed 1,625 $ETH , 103.6 tBTC, and 147K $USDC. All funds were swapped into 5,402 ETH and consolidated into a single wallet.
GoPlus Security reports the hacker triggered a custom bridge function via a low-value transaction. Analysts suspect message validation failures or access control weaknesses. The attacker’s wallet was funded via Tornado Cash just 14 hours before the hack, making tracing harder.
The Verus token reacted immediately, dropping over 4% in 24 hours.
Bridges remain crypto’s biggest single point of failure due to massive liquidity pools locked in complex smart contracts.
