🚨 GLOBAL FOOD CRISIS ALERT 🚨
Food is set to get even more expensive! The fallout from the Iran War is already hitting hard:
💥 Fertilizer prices have surged +44% since the start of the conflict—the highest levels since 2022.
🌍 Why it matters: ~33% of globally traded fertilizers pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which is now effectively closed.
Breakdown of global exposure:
23% of ammonia
34% of urea (the world’s most widely used nitrogen fertilizer)
Nearly 20% of phosphate supply
📈 Meanwhile, the Bloomberg Agriculture Subindex has jumped ~9%, tracking the futures prices of key crops like wheat, corn, soybeans, sugar, coffee, and cotton.
Historically, rising fertilizer costs act as a leading indicator for higher food prices: as production costs climb, farmers are forced to reduce supply, which pushes crop prices higher.
⚠️ The result: a new wave of global food inflation is imminent, threatening economies and households worldwide.
