Quantum Defense for Dormant Bitcoin 🔐
🔎 Privacy startup AmericanFortress unveiled a patent-pending post-quantum signature scheme to protect old, vulnerable BTC wallets — including Satoshi’s 1.1M BTC — without forcing mass fund migrations.
⛓️💥 The solution uses a backward-compatible soft fork and zero-knowledge proofs to freeze at-risk pre-BIP32 addresses until governance decides to move, burn, or redistribute them.
How It Works ⚙️
▶️ No forced migrations: Funds stay in place but get frozen against quantum attacks via a soft fork.
▶️ Multi-layer defense: Covers pre-BIP32 raw keys, standard BIP32 wallets, and a high-speed “QBIP32” scheme.
▶️ Zero performance hit: Integrates with existing curves; protection is just a node + wallet software update. Active wallets can upgrade in ∼50ms.
Scale & Backing 💰
▶️ $400B at stake: Nearly 5M dormant BTC worth ∼$400B could be secured.
▶️ Broad coverage: Works for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Tron. 100% of Solana addresses are currently quantum-vulnerable per the firm.
▶️ Funding: $8M seed round led by SAVA Digital Asset Fund, Moon Pursuit Capital, 0G Labs. SDK is being licensed to L1/L2 chains.
What’s Next 📅
📢👥 Methods for Bitcoin go public in the next few weeks, with an official presentation set for June 2 in Paris. AmericanFortress calls it a turning point for crypto’s long-term security.
