Walrus ($WAL ) is a decentralized storage and data availability network. It’s a project designed to handle "blobs"—large files like images, videos, and AI datasets—that are often too expensive or slow to store directly on a standard blockchain.

Core Project: The Walrus Protocol

• Developed by Mysten Labs: The same team behind the Sui blockchain. While it is an independent network, it uses Sui as a coordination layer for metadata and proofs of storage.

• The Problem It Solves: Traditional blockchains aren't great at storing huge amounts of data. Walrus acts like a decentralized "hard drive" for the internet (Web3), competing with services like Filecoin or even centralized giants like AWS.

• "Red Stuff" Technology: They use a proprietary encoding algorithm (humorously named "Red Stuff") to break data into fragments. This ensures that even if some storage nodes go offline, the original file can still be fully recovered.
