There was a time when $WAXP was one of the most active ecosystems in blockchain gaming and NFTs.
Transactions were massive.
NFT marketplaces were busy.
Play-to-earn games exploded.
Thousands of users joined through simple onboarding and low fees.
Compared to many chains at the time, WAX felt accessible, fast, and alive.
So what happened?
Growth Came Fast — Maybe Too Fast
During the NFT and play-to-earn boom, the ecosystem expanded rapidly.
Games like Alien Worlds and Farmers World attracted huge activity numbers. Wallet creation surged. Marketplace volume exploded. New projects launched almost daily.
But over time, many people started questioning whether the growth was actually organic.
A large portion of ecosystem activity appeared heavily influenced by:
bots,multi-account farming,automated gameplay,and speculative farming behavior.
On paper, the numbers looked incredible.
In reality, many communities underneath were much smaller than expected.
When rewards slowed down or profitability dropped, activity disappeared just as quickly.
The Problem With Unsustainable Economies
One of the biggest weaknesses across many Web3 ecosystems — including WAX — was the heavy dependence on constant growth.
Too many projects followed the same cycle:
launch hype,sell NFTs or tokens,push valuations higher,attract liquidity,then slowly lose direction.
Some projects started with unrealistic expectations and oversized token economies before proving long-term sustainability.
As user growth slowed:
token inflation increased,asset prices collapsed,liquidity dried up,and many projects either went inactive or disappeared completely.
Some builders kept building.
Others quietly vanished.
Communication Slowly Became a Trust Issue
Another criticism often directed at the ecosystem involved communication and transparency.
Roadmaps changed.
Features were delayed.
Some goals disappeared without much explanation.
Over time, many users began feeling disconnected from the direction of the ecosystem itself.
In Web3, trust matters more than people realize.
Even strong technology struggles when communities stop believing in the long-term vision.
Governance and Ecosystem Stagnation
Many people also criticized how parts of the ecosystem became stagnant over time.
Governance structures, support systems, guild activity, and ecosystem incentives often felt repetitive or ineffective after several years.
Some believed too much influence remained concentrated among a small number of groups, while smaller builders struggled to gain visibility or ecosystem support.
At the same time, many projects that originally launched on WAX eventually pivoted elsewhere instead of continuing to grow the ecosystem they started in.
That created a difficult cycle:
fewer major success stories,weaker onboarding,less outside attention,and declining excitement.
Onboarding Became Harder
Ironically, WAX originally became popular partly because onboarding felt easier than most blockchains.

Most ecosystems underestimate how difficult Web3 still feels for ordinary people.
Reputation Matters
As problems accumulated, WAX slowly developed a difficult reputation across parts of the wider crypto industry.
Critics increasingly associated the ecosystem with:
bot-heavy activity,abandoned projects,speculative NFT economies,and weak long-term retention.
Whether fully fair or not, reputations in crypto spread quickly — and are extremely hard to repair.
Is WAX Dead?
Not necessarily.
Crypto history has repeatedly shown that ecosystems can survive long periods of decline before eventually finding a new direction.
What determines survival is rarely hype alone.
The ecosystems that last are usually the ones that:
keep building during quiet periods,support real communities,improve transparency,create sustainable economies,and focus on genuine utility instead of short-term extraction.
At its core, the value of any blockchain ecosystem does not come only from transactions or token prices.
It comes from:
builders,communities,collaboration,trust,and long-term belief that something meaningful is still being created.
And despite everything, some people still believe WAX can eventually rediscover that path again.
