Italy Proposes Supplying Fishing Nets to Ukraine to Protect Cities from Russian Drones
A new initiative presented in the Italian Senate proposes creating a state mechanism to transfer decommissioned fishing nets to Ukraine to help protect cities from Russian drone attacks.
According to Dmytro Shchukin, President of the Network of Associations for Ukraine (NAU), the proposal demonstrates how simple and cost-effective solutions can save lives.
"In Ukraine, fishing nets are already being used to protect civilians from drone attacks. The Italian initiative creates a mechanism that will encourage companies to transfer decommissioned nets instead of disposing of them. If adopted, it could become an important precedent for other European countries," Shchukin said.
Fishing nets have proven effective in Ukraine as a low-cost defensive measure, helping to intercept or disrupt incoming drones and reduce damage to civilian infrastructure.
