Vitalik Buterin said the Ethereum Foundation was never meant to be the “center” of Ethereum, but simply one node with a specific role within the ecosystem.

He explained the EF will become leaner, more long-term focused, and more opinionated concentrating on Ethereum’s core principles such as censorship resistance, openness, privacy, security, and resistance to capture, rather than acting as the ecosystem’s primary growth engine.

Vitalik also noted that while ETH is Ethereum’s most financially significant asset, much of the work required to support ETH as an asset class falls outside the Foundation’s mandate and should be handled by other organizations across the ecosystem.
