Before “Layer-2” became a buzzword, Plasma showed how blockchains could grow without breaking. It introduced a parent–child chain model where most activity happens away from the congested main network, yet final security still lives on the base layer.

This design cuts fees and increases capacity, making blockchains usable at scale. Importantly, Plasma protects users through exit mechanisms, so funds can always be reclaimed on the main chain if a child chain misbehaves.

Even though the ecosystem now leans toward rollups and newer designs, Plasma’s contribution still echoes across Web3. It shaped how builders think about scaling and proved that layered architectures are the path to mass adoption.
