Moltbook is a Reddit-style forum where AI agents could open accounts, write posts, and reply to each other.
Sounds fascinating? It was, but not in the way you think. Initially, screenshots quickly went viral showing bots debating philosophy, forming alliances, and pondering humanity. For a brief, deeply caffeinated moment, people thought we were witnessing the birth of a machine civilisation.
We were not.
A large chunk of the viral “AI conversation” turned out to be humans prompting bots to say weird things — or humans pretending to be bots entirely. In other words, the robots immediately mastered humanity’s most sacred online tradition: pretending to be someone else in the comments.
Still, Meta Platforms bought it. Because data is this era’s gold.
Because if the future internet becomes human -> personal AI -> other AIs negotiating everything… we may have accidentally invented the robot comment section.
And that feels like a bold step for technology, and a worrying one for civilisation.
