What is the Privacy Portal?

The COTI Privacy Portal is a web application that lets you convert public tokens on the COTI Network into private tokens, and back again, directly from your wallet. Think of it as a secure passage between public and private states for your assets.

Portal In takes a public token (e.g. wETH) and converts it into a private token (p.WETH). Once portaled in, your balance is encrypted on-chain. Only you can see it.

Portal Out does the reverse. Convert your private token back to its public form whenever you choose. Your assets remain fully liquid and under your control at all times.

The process is non-custodial, fully on-chain, and powered by COTI’s Garbled Circuits. Your private keys never leave your wallet.

Supported Tokens

The Privacy Portal supports the following tokens:

  • COTI

  • Wrapped Ether (wETH)

  • Wrapped BTC (wBTC)

  • Tether USD (USDT)

  • Bridged USDC (USDC.e)

  • Wrapped ADA (wADA)

  • gCOTI

Once a token is portaled in, it becomes a private ERC-20 token on the COTI Network. Private tokens can be sent, received, and managed through the COTI MetaMask Snap, which adds encrypted balance viewing and private token management directly into MetaMask.

How It Works

Getting started takes just a few minutes.

Step 1: Connect Your Wallet

Head to Privacy.coti.io and connect your wallet. MetaMask is recommended. If your wallet isn’t already connected to COTI Network, you’ll be prompted to add it.

Step 2: Install the COTI MetaMask Snap

The Privacy Portal will prompt you to install the COTI MetaMask Snap if you haven’t already. The Snap gives MetaMask the ability to handle private tokens and encrypted balances. Follow the prompts to install and onboard your AES key. This is a one-time setup.

Step 3: Unlock Private Tokens

  • Once the Snap is installed, click Unlock on the Private Tokens panel to decrypt and view your private balances.

  • Your session will automatically lock when you refresh or disconnect, keeping your private data protected.

Step 4: Portal In to Privacy

  • Select a public token you currently hold in your wallet from the left panel and click on it.

  • Choose the amount you want to make private using the slider or manual input, then click Portal In.

  • Approve the transaction in your wallet and wait for confirmation.

Once the transaction confirms, your tokens are now private and you’re all set!. Your private balance is encrypted on-chain and visible only to you through the MetaMask Snap.

Step 5: Portal Out of Privacy (Optional)

Want to make your private tokens public again?

  • Select the private token from the right panel

  • Choose the amount you want to make public and click Portal Out.

  • Approve the transaction in your wallet and wait for confirmation.

Your private tokens return to their original public form instantly.

Privacy Portal Fees

Privacy Portal fees are intended to be accessible by everyone, follow a simple formula and are processed in COTI tokens The formula works like this: A flat fee or a percentage fee is applied, the higher of the two is the fee paid by the user. There is a Max Cap on fees at various tiers.

Portal In (Encrypt): Fixed fee of 10 COTI or percentage fee of 0.05% of tx value. Max fee of 3,000 COTI.

Portal Out (Decrypt): Fixed fee of 3 COTI or percentage fee of 0.025% of tx value. Max fee of 1,500 COTI.

For smaller transactions, the fixed fee applies, keeping costs predictable. For larger transactions, the percentage fee scales gradually but is always capped, so privacy remains accessible at any scale.

Fees are always denominated in COTI. The equivalent dollar cost depends on the current COTI price.

Under the Hood

The Privacy Portal is powered by COTI’s private ERC-20 contracts and the COTI MetaMask Snap.

When you Portal In, the smart contract encrypts your token balance using COTI’s Garbled Circuits, converting it into a private token that lives on-chain with an encrypted balance. The underlying cryptography ensures that only you, as the holder of the AES key generated during Snap onboarding, can decrypt and view your balance.

All transactions are verified on-chain. You can view them on COTI’s block explorer at any time. The privacy layer protects your balance and transfer details, while the public chain ensures auditability and security.
