Aster DEX has been very active during the long market slowdown. While many projects reduced activity Aster focused on protecting its token price. The main tool has been token buybacks. Over time this has turned into the core strategy to absorb selling and reduce supply.
Since the change in its structure Aster has completed four buyback rounds. In total more than two hundred million tokens were bought back. The value of these buybacks is over one hundred forty million dollars. This is a large amount by any standard. To push this further the team launched stage five of the buyback program.
Stage five changes how protocol fees are used. Up to eighty percent of fees are now directed toward buybacks. Forty percent of daily fees are used for automatic daily purchases. These buys are done through a public wallet so the community can track activity easily. Another portion of fees goes into a strategic reserve to support long term stability.
Since stage five began the team has already bought a fresh batch of tokens worth several hundred thousand dollars. On paper this looks strong. Buybacks reduce circulating supply and should support price. But price action tells a different story.
The team also added a new source of buyback funds called Shield Mode Fees. This system uses a profit sharing model. Traders pay a fee only when they make profit. Losses are not charged. All net profit from this mode goes fully into token buybacks. This design aligns user success with token support and adds another steady stream of demand.
Even with these strong deflation steps the market response has been weak. ASTER price continues to face heavy selling. Data shows that sell volume is still higher than buy volume. The gap between sellers and buyers remains negative. This confirms that pressure is coming from the market not from lack of effort by the protocol.
Large holders are also reducing exposure. Over a short period a significant number of tokens were sold by top holders. When bigger players sell it often outweighs steady buybacks. This keeps price trapped in a downtrend.
From a chart view ASTER remains in a falling channel. Price trades below key moving averages which signals ongoing weakness. Until price moves above these levels sellers stay in control. If selling continues the token could drift lower toward the next support zone near sixty cents.
Buybacks alone cannot force a reversal when market mood stays bearish. They work best when selling slows or when demand returns naturally. Right now fear and caution dominate. Investors appear focused on capital protection rather than long term value.
For a real shift ASTER needs more than internal support. It needs buyers to return and sellers to ease. A daily close above the short term resistance level would help change sentiment. Until then buybacks act as a cushion not a trigger.
In short Aster is doing what it can. The program is large transparent and consistent. But market pressure remains stronger for now. Buybacks reduce damage yet price recovery still depends on broader confidence returning.
