Everyone is celebrating the near-zero fees on Layer 2s, but few understand the profound architectural shift that made it possible. Before the Dencun upgrade, scaling solutions were hampered by L1 storage costs. L2s had to use expensive, permanent Ethereum Calldata to anchor their transactions for security.
