H&M beats profit estimates, but the market remains cautious on the sales recovery

🧵 H&M’s Q1 2026 report showed a clear improvement in earnings quality, with operating profit reaching SEK 1.512 billion, up 26% year over year and above market expectations. Gross margin also rose to 50.7%, suggesting discount pressure has eased compared with earlier periods.

📦 The positive side came from tighter cost control and better inventory management. Selling and administrative expenses were kept in check, while inventory fell 16% to SEK 34.608 billion, giving H&M more operating flexibility and supporting confidence in its restructuring process.

🛍️ Even so, the revenue picture is not fully convincing yet. Net sales fell 10% in SEK terms and 1% in local currencies for the quarter, while March sales are only expected to rise 1%, showing that global consumer demand remains fairly cautious.

Evotec draws attention with a strong Q4, but keeps a cautious tone for 2026
