The Avalanche Foundation has launched its 2026 Global Research Grant Program, offering up to $50,000 USD for academic work on the economics of decentralized networks, with applications open until June 1, 2026. Grants are paid over 12 months in three milestones 30% upfront, 30% at the six-month mark with a progress report, and 40% upon completion of a publishable working paper. while researchers keep full IP rights and can present at the 3rd Crafting the Cryptoeconomy Conference at Columbia University this fall. Proposals will be reviewed by an independent committee from Ava Labs, the Avalanche Foundation, and external academics, based on relevance, rigor, novelty, feasibility, and team qualifications.

After a $292M exploit of KelpDAO’s LayerZero bridge on April 18, 2026 left Aave with ∼$180M-$200M in bad debt, Aave launched “DeFi United” on April 24 to restore liquidity. The rescue fund has raised 132K+ ETH, over $300M, with big pledges including 30,000 ETH from Consensys + Joseph Lubin, 25,000 ETH proposed by Aave’s DAO, 5,000 ETH from founder Stani Kulechov, plus contributions from Lido, http://Ether.fi, Mantle, and Kelp. LayerZero is backing DeFi United, though its exact amount isn’t disclosed, the total effort is well over 1000 ETH. The plan will buy back rsETH, boost liquidity, and compensate users over ∼ 49 days, and rsETH has already recovered 15% of supply while moving back toward its 1:1 peg.
