While most people are focused on the usual Layer-1 suspects, I’ve been quietly accumulating Zilliqa again. At current prices around $0.004, it feels like one of the most overlooked asymmetric opportunities in the market.
What Still Makes Zilliqa Special
Zilliqa was one of the pioneers of sharding back in 2019. While many newer chains promised scalability and failed to deliver under real load, Zilliqa actually built and proved the technology early.
With Zilliqa 2.0, they made a major leap:
• Full EVM compatibility — developers can now easily deploy Solidity contracts
• Transition to Proof-of-Stake with better tokenomics
• Significantly faster block times and improved developer experience
They’re no longer asking people to learn a new language (Scilla). They’re meeting developers where they are.
Why I’m Personally Bullish
1. Extremely Low Market Cap
With a market cap still under $100 million, the upside potential is massive if they manage to capture even a small portion of the developer and DeFi migration narrative.
2. Undervalued Tech
In a world obsessed with narrative coins, Zilliqa offers real technical differentiation with sharding + EVM. That combination is rare.
3. Quiet but Steady Progress
The team continues shipping upgrades (recent mainnet improvements, state pruning, RANDAO support). They’re not the loudest, but they’re consistent.
4. High-Reward Setup
If altseason truly kicks in during Q3-Q4 2026, veteran Layer-1s with strong tech and low market caps like Zilliqa tend to deliver outsized moves.
My Honest Position:
I’ve added a meaningful bag at these levels. It’s not my largest position, but it’s one I’m most excited about on a risk/reward basis. I see Zilliqa as a classic “sleeping giant” — ignored by most, but with real potential to surprise when money starts rotating into undervalued infrastructure plays.
Of course, risks remain: fierce competition, past adoption challenges, and the need to execute flawlessly. But at current valuations, the downside feels limited while the upside is substantial.

Both Zilliqa and Ethereum are working on sharding to solve blockchain scalability, but they take very different paths.
Core Philosophy
• Zilliqa: Implemented production sharding as early as 2019. It uses a two-layer sharding model designed for high throughput from day one.
• Ethereum: Originally planned full sharding in its roadmap. It has shifted toward a rollup-centric + Danksharding approach. As of mid-2026, Ethereum mainly relies on Layer-2 rollups with Proto-Danksharding (EIP-4844) already live, while full Danksharding is still in progress.
How Sharding Works
Zilliqa Sharding:
• Divides the network into multiple Transaction Shards that process transactions in parallel.
• Uses a Directory Service (DS) Committee as a final consensus layer.
• Each shard runs its own consensus (pBFT).
• Achieves high native throughput (historically 2,000+ TPS).
Ethereum Sharding (Current + Future):
• Currently focuses on data sharding (Danksharding) to provide cheap data availability for Layer-2 rollups.
• Does not shard execution yet (each shard will eventually have its own execution environment, but this is years away).
• Relies heavily on Layer-2s (Optimism, Arbitrum, Base, etc.) for scaling execution.
Key Differences
• Implementation Year: Zilliqa has had live sharding since 2019. Ethereum is still gradually implementing its sharding roadmap.
• Type of Sharding: Zilliqa does full transaction + state sharding. Ethereum focuses primarily on data availability sharding.
• Throughput: Zilliqa achieves high native TPS on the base layer. Ethereum achieves high throughput mainly through its Layer-2 ecosystem.
• Security Model: Zilliqa uses DS Committee + pBFT. Ethereum relies on its strong economic security and restaking.
• Adoption: Zilliqa has limited adoption so far. Ethereum dominates developer activity and TVL through its Layer-2 ecosystem.
My Personal View
Zilliqa’s approach is more ambitious from a pure Layer-1 perspective. They tried to solve scalability directly on the base layer with full sharding. Technically impressive, but they struggled with adoption and developer mindshare.
Ethereum’s approach is more pragmatic. Instead of forcing complex sharding on the base layer immediately, they built a strong, secure settlement layer and moved most scaling to Layer-2 rollups. This has proven extremely successful in terms of usage and capital deployed.
Right now in 2026:
Zilliqa has better theoretical scalability on L1.
Ethereum has far superior real-world adoption, security, and ecosystem strength.
Zilliqa could still shine if they manage to attract meaningful DeFi and dApp activity in this cycle. Ethereum, however, remains the clear leader in the smart contract space.

Zilliqa was one of the first public blockchains to implement sharding in a production environment back in 2019. Its sharding design is still considered one of the more elegant and practical approaches in the industry.
What is Sharding?
Sharding is a scalability technique that splits the network into smaller groups (called shards) so that transactions can be processed in parallel instead of sequentially on a single chain.
Zilliqa’s Sharding Architecture
Zilliqa uses a two-layer sharding structure:
1. Directory Service (DS) Committee
• This is the control layer.
• A small group of nodes (usually 600 nodes) is elected to form the DS Committee.
• They are responsible for:
- Finalizing transactions
- Managing shard assignments
- Running the consensus for the overall network
2. Transaction Shards (Normal Shards)
• The network is divided into multiple transaction shards (typically 10–60+ depending on network size).
• Each shard processes its own set of transactions independently and in parallel.
• This is where most of the actual transaction throughput happens.
How the Process Works
1. Transaction Assignment
New transactions are assigned to specific shards based on the sender’s address (using a deterministic function).
2 Intra-Shard Consensus
Each shard runs its own PBFT (Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance) consensus to validate transactions quickly.
3. Cross-Shard Communication
When a transaction involves multiple shards (e.g., transferring tokens from one shard to another), Zilliqa uses a special cross-shard communication protocol managed by the DS Committee.
4. Finalization
Once shards process their transactions, the DS Committee aggregates and finalizes them into the main blockchain.
Key Advantages of Zilliqa’s Sharding
• High Throughput: Zilliqa has demonstrated over 2,000+ TPS in real conditions.
• Linear Scalability: Adding more nodes generally increases overall capacity.
• Energy Efficiency: Uses pBFT instead of energy-heavy Proof-of-Work for consensus.
• Security: The DS Committee acts as a final security layer.
Current Status (2026)
With Zilliqa 2.0, they have made significant improvements:
• Better integration with EVM
• Transition to Proof-of-Stake
• Enhanced cross-shard communication
• Improved developer experience
My Personal View
Zilliqa’s sharding approach was ahead of its time. While many newer chains focused on marketing and hype, Zilliqa focused on solving one of the hardest problems in blockchain — secure, scalable sharding.
The main challenge for Zilliqa has always been adoption, not the underlying technology. If they can attract more developers and DeFi activity in this cycle, the technical foundation is already there for strong performance.
