The Privacy Lie We All Accepted
I think the moment I stopped trusting Web2 privacy was when I realized every system I ever handed my data to was just asking me to hope for the best. Privacy policies. Compliance audits. Terms of service. None of it gives you actual verification. Just polite reassurance dressed up in legal language.
Midnight changes the question entirely. Web2 asks how do we protect your data after we have it. Midnight asks why does your data need to leave your hands in the first place.
Zero knowledge proofs make that possible. Prove what needs to be proven. Keep everything else. No centralized database. No single point of failure. No blind trust required.
That is not an upgrade on Web2 privacy. That is a completely different architecture.
