The proof checked.

The other side still said not enough.

Thats the Midnight bit that keeps annoying me.

Not the privacy pitch. Not the ZK part either. Fine. Useful. Not the problem. Some things should stay off the public stage. Payroll. Treasury rules. Counterparty checks. Nobody serious wants that sprayed across a chain forever just because crypto got sentimental about transparency.

The annoying part starts later.

Nobody is even asking for everything. That is what makes it worse.

Its always narrower than that. Show me the exception path. Show me the approval slice. Show me why this cleared and the other one didn’t. Show me enough to let this file move without dumping the whole hidden state into the room.

Always “just enough.”

That phrase does a lot of damage.

Because once Midnight network keeps most of the workflow private by default, somebody still has to decide what counts as enough. Enough for the counterparty. Enough for internal risk. Enough for whoever has to sign off and own the outcome later when nobody remembers the nice product language.

At that point it’s barely a cryptography fight.

It turns into a who-do-we-have-to-take-at-their-word problem.

The proof can validate the condition. Great. The narrower disclosure package can still leave the room leaning on a smaller group to say, no, trust us, this slice is sufficient, this is all you need, nothing important sits outside it. Maybe they’re right. Maybe. Still means the confidence lives closer to the people controlling disclosure than crypto likes to admit.

Funny how privacy stops sounding trustless right around there.

And that is the Midnight discomfort. Not that hidden state exists. That the moment things get tense, fewer people can inspect enough to argue back with confidence, so the official explanation starts carrying more weight than anybody wanted to say out loud.

Not full secrecy.

Worse, honestly.

A smaller window.

A smaller group.

And everyone else waiting to hear whether that was supposed to be enough.
