Drift Protocol’s Worst Day
April 1, 2026 was no joke — and Drift Protocol made that clear immediately. Within just twelve minutes, the leading decentralized perpetuals exchange on Solana lost $285 million. Not due to a code vulnerability, but something far harder to fix.
The attackers drained three main vaults — JLP Delta Neutral, SOL Super Staking, and BTC Super Staking — across 31 sequential withdrawal transactions, stealing USDC, SOL, JLP, and WBTC.
As a result, Drift’s total value locked plummeted from over $550 million to just $232 million, and all protocol functions were effectively frozen
