Lawyer Ariel Givner said the $280 million attack on Solana-based DeFi platform Drift Protocol may amount to civil negligence because standard security procedures were not followed. Givner said the failures included not keeping signing keys on physically isolated systems and not conducting enough due diligence on blockchain developers met at industry conferences. Drift said the attacker spent 6 months building trust after first contacting the team at a major crypto conference in October 2025. Drift said the attacker later hijacked a developer's device through a malicious link and Trojan implant.
