The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has officially launched a compensation process for victims of the OneCoin cryptocurrency fraud, making approximately $40 million in forfeited assets available for recovery.
Claim Eligibility & Process
Eligible Participants: Anyone who purchased OneCoin between 2014 and 2019 and suffered a net financial loss.
Application Website: Victims can file petitions online at the official OneCoin Remission Portal.
Deadline: All claims must be submitted by June 30, 2026.
Cost: The process is free; the DOJ does not charge fees to participate, and an attorney is not required to file.
Fraud Scale: The OneCoin Ponzi scheme, co-founded by Ruja Ignatova ("The Cryptoqueen") and Karl Sebastian Greenwood, defrauded millions of investors of more than $4 billion globally.
Legal Status: Karl Sebastian Greenwood was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2023. Ruja Ignatova has been a fugitive since 2017 and remains on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list.
Fund Source: The current $40 million fund consists of net proceeds from assets forfeited during criminal proceedings, including cash and luxury items.
