$ETH JUST IN: Arbitrum Resurrected After The KelpDAO Exploit Event
30,766 $ETH (~$71M) was stolen and moved to a wallet on Arbitrum – suspected to be linked to North Korea's Lazarus Group.
Then something unusual happened. The Arbitrum Security Council stepped in.
They moved the entire 30,766 ETH from the hacker's wallet to a secured Arbitrum-controlled address: 0x00000...0000DA0 – coordinated with law enforcement, with zero impact on regular users or running applications. Funds are now frozen and can only be moved through formal governance processes.
Interestingly, North Korea's Lazarus Group stole from Arbitrum and Arbitrum stole back
For context: Arbitrum is a Layer 2 built on Ethereum - a faster, cheaper network that stays connected to the main chain. Its Security Council is a community-elected group with emergency intervention powers for exactly these scenarios. Their authority covers Arbitrum only, which is why the remaining ~75,700 ETH (~$175M) the hacker holds on Ethereum mainnet remains untouched. Different chain, different jurisdiction.
