U.S. launches federal task force to combat crypto-scams

In a dedicated push against cryptocurrency fraud, the U.S. government has established the “Scam Centre Strike Force” to target large-scale criminal networks operating from Southeast Asia that have defrauded tens of thousands of people via crypto-investment and romance-scam schemes. The task force brings together the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), United States Secret Service (USSS), Treasury and State Departments, and private tech firms to dismantle scam hubs and disrupt illicit funding flows. With recent losses by victims in the billions, the initiative signals a tougher enforcement posture in the crypto-space.
