Iran’s Fars News Agency, citing an informed source, reported that a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States was revised at the final stage before agreement to explicitly emphasize Iran and Oman’s authority to manage the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Odaily, the latest text states that the future management of “maritime shipping services” in the Strait of Hormuz will be jointly decided by Iran and Oman. The report said the use of the term “maritime shipping services” indicates that the United States effectively acknowledges Iran’s right to charge passing vessels for related services.

The report said Iran agreed to provide a 60-day period of free passage for ships. After the 60-day period ends, Iran plans to generate revenue from commercial vessels transiting the strait by providing services including navigation safety, maritime support, environmental protection, and insurance, and to use the proceeds for national economic development.

The report added that Iran has previously conducted necessary coordination and consultations with Oman on the issue. No specific explanation was provided for the 60-day free passage period.
