The difference is in the data: balances, transfer amounts, and allowances are all encrypted on-chain. Each holder has their own encryption key. Only you can decrypt your balance. Everyone else, including validators, sees ciphertext.

The same privacy primitives extend to non-fungible assets. On COTI you can create, mint, and transfer private ERC-721 NFTs, with ownership kept confidential. The COTI MetaMask Snap already lets you sync, import, and view private NFT metadata and images directly in your wallet.
