The African solar industry is set to experience unprecedented growth by 2025, driven by a surge in utility-scale projects, according to a report released by the Global Solar Council (GSC) on Tuesday. According to Jin10, the report highlights that Africa's annual new solar capacity is expected to exceed six times last year's figures by 2029.

In 2025, the continent is projected to add approximately 4.5 gigawatts of solar capacity, marking a significant 54% increase from the previous year and surpassing the record set in 2023. South Africa leads the continent with an installed capacity of 1.6 gigawatts, followed by Nigeria with 803 megawatts and Egypt with 500 megawatts.

The GSC anticipates that as both distributed and utility-scale markets expand concurrently across more countries, Africa's annual solar capacity could surpass 33 gigawatts by 2029.
