Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm has been found guilty on one of three charges in a U.S. court. After four days of deliberations, the jury could only agree on the count of conspiracy to operate an unregistered business. They did not reach a unanimous decision on the other two charges — money laundering and violating sanctions.

The U.S. Department of Justice previously accused the developers of Tornado Cash of creating a tool for laundering funds on behalf of criminals, including the North Korean group Lazarus. Storm was released on a $2 million bail, while another co-founder, Roman Semenov, was charged in absentia. The crypto community, including participants such as Vitalik Buterin, actively supports the developers, arguing that they are not responsible for the misuse of their code.

Experts are divided on the court's decision, with many viewing these cases as precedent-setting. The date for Storm's sentencing has not yet been set.
