April Just Became the Worst Month for Hacks Since Bybit

Over $606 million lost to crypto hacks in the first 24 days of April .

The two biggest attacks:

April 1: Drift Protocol on Solana — $285 million (Lazarus Group)

April 19: Kelp DAO bridge — $292 million (Lazarus Group)

Neither was a code bug. Both were months-long social engineering operations — attackers posing as legitimate recruiters, developers, or business partners.

The fallout:

Aave lost $8.4 billion in deposits within 48 hours of the attack

Ethereum saw $1.6 billion in outflows on April 24 alone

Total DeFi TVL dropped over $13 billion

The practical takeaway from analysts: Keep coins custodied with institutions or in cold wallets rather than deposited in DeFi protocols. History shows hack-related dips have always been buying opportunities .
