By then, it was past the lunch rush, and the place was dead quiet. I found the server who had taken care of us and told her I forgot to pay.
All the other staff suddenly turned their heads, and the owner at the register shot her a glance. That server flipped out right away, loudly scolding us for not paying up.
My friend was fuming, ready to throw down, but I held him back. No need for that. I got the total for the meal, settled the bill, and honestly, I'm still not sure if making that trip back to pay was the right play or not.
