#Stellar
Stellar — a platform for currency operations that operates in real-time, a real-time currency settlement system. It was founded in early 2014 by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim as a spin-off from the Ripple system and initially operated on the namesake protocol. Later, a proprietary open-source protocol Stellar was developed. In the process, a proprietary form of electronic currency was used, which was previously called stellar, stellar, or star, star, and is now called lumen, lumen, or XLM.
To support the platform, a non-profit non-stock fund Stellar Development Foundation was organized. The funding for the fund was obtained from Stripe.
The updated Stellar network, on its own protocol, began operations in November 2015. And at the time of its first launch in the summer of 2014 and throughout 2015, Stellar received positive reviews in the press.
As of January 11, 2018, Stellar ranks 9th in the list of cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, with a market cap of 9,130,804,932 USD.
