Implement the directive of the Minister of Public Security on launching the peak attack campaign against crime; Da Nang City Police has just focused forces to successfully dismantle the case, arresting a group of individuals involved in high-tech crimes to appropriate property through fraud in virtual currency multi-level marketing with complex nature, nationwide scale, and particularly large amount of appropriated money.
Accordingly, on December 15, the Da Nang City Police coordinated with the Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department – Ministry of Public Security, the Da Nang City People's Procuracy to simultaneously deploy forces, means, and professional measures to arrest 8 subjects in the Special Case, in which the leader is Huynh Duc Van (33 years old, residing in Hoa Cuong Ward, Da Nang City).
The initial investigation results determined: Around the beginning of 2020, Huynh Duc Van colluded and discussed the division of work with 03 subjects in Ho Chi Minh City and many other subjects to create a 'ghost' project about a virtual currency named 'DRK' and then promoted it through many false information on social media to lure many people to participate in order to appropriate the assets of investors.
After luring many investors to participate until the end of 2021, the subjects decided to collapse the DRK project, delete the website, remove the fanpage, and related groups to appropriate all investors' money and then sell it through Vietnamese currency for personal spending.
Based on information, documents, and electronic data obtained during the investigation, it was determined that the subjects had appropriated from investors the amount of cryptocurrency consisting of more than 1880 BTC, over 37,000 ETH, and nearly 2.7 million USDT (equivalent to approximately 2,000 billion dong in 2021).
Through the implementation of procedural measures, the Investigation Police Agency temporarily suspended transactions of bank accounts and real estate related to an amount exceeding 600 billion dong. A case has now been initiated, defendants have been charged, and Huynh Duc Van and 07 related subjects have been temporarily detained.
The Police Agency calls on related subjects to the case to quickly surrender to enjoy the leniency policy of the law.
Through the above case, the Da Nang City Police announced that anyone who has been a victim of Huynh Duc Van and accomplices should come to the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of Da Nang City (address: 47 Ly Tu Trong, Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City) to report and resolve according to the provisions of the law.
