JPMorgan withdraws $350 billion from the Federal Reserve to buy Treasury bonds

The largest American bank has taken steps to achieve higher yields ahead of central bank rate cuts.

JPMorgan Chase has withdrawn nearly $350 billion (€297.6 billion) in cash from its account at the Federal Reserve since 2023 and has invested much of it in U.S. government debt.

With this move, the bank seeks to protect itself from rate cuts that threaten to erode its profits.

JPMorgan, which has more than $4 trillion in assets, drastically reduced its balance at the Fed from $409 billion at the end of 2023 to just $63 billion in the third quarter of this year.
