🇺🇸 Crypto regulation is being relaunched in the US. The Senate confirmed two of Donald Trump's pro-crypto nominees for key positions: ✦ Michael Selig – Head of the CFTC. • Worked at the SEC, where he focused specifically on crypto policy and market structure. • Considers most crypto assets to be commodities, not securities. • Promotes regulation through the CFTC instead of pushing through the courts. • Supports stablecoins, tokenization, and spot markets. ✦ Travis Hill – Head of the FDIC. • Already leads the FDIC as acting head. • Publicly opposed debanking (Chokepoint 2.0) for crypto companies. • Allowed banks to work with cryptocurrency without separate regulatory approval. • Supports the banking model for regulating stablecoins. ✦ Why this matters: • The CFTC could become the country's primary crypto regulator if Congress grants it control over spot trading. • The FDIC, under Hill's leadership, is reversing its anti-debanking policy. Banks no longer need to obtain separate approval to work with crypto companies.
