Swedish AI startup Endra Systems AB successfully raised $20 million (approximately 28.8 billion KRW) in seed funding to drive innovation in architectural design engineering. The platform focuses on automating complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, serving as a specialized solution with AI optimization advantages, promising to bring transformation to an industry that has long relied on traditional manual operations.
This round of financing was led by European venture capital firm Notion Capital, with early investors Norrsken VC and angel investors continuing to participate. Following a €3 million (approximately 4.4 billion KRW) pre-seed financing in May this year, Endra is accelerating its global expansion plans.
Endra's main focus is on the construction infrastructure sector—mechanical, electrical, and plumbing technologies, encompassing complex systems essential for modern buildings such as air conditioning, ventilation, electrical wiring, and fire safety facilities, which require high technical capabilities and manual design skills. Co-founder and CEO Niklas Lindgren pointed out: “The design technology in this field has lacked innovation over the past 25 years. Endra's goal is to fundamentally reshape this stagnant industry with hundreds of times the design speed.”
It is noteworthy that the platform has achieved deep integration with Autodesk's core building information modeling tool, Revit. Based on building 3D design drawings, relevant regulations, and system types, the platform can automate complex wiring design, piping architecture, and fire alarm positioning, widely utilizing large language models, machine learning, and 3D simulation algorithms. The large language model is responsible for understanding architectural intentions, interpreting local standards, and effectively improving design accuracy.
This startup, founded at the end of 2023, currently has only 10 employees but plans to triple the team size within a year with the help of this funding round and officially enter the markets of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. The platform has been launched for less than four months, and over 600 companies from more than 90 countries are already waiting to connect, reflecting the high expectations of the market.
Robin Wänlund of Notion Capital commented: “MEP design is essentially a rule-driven labor-intensive industry, and AI automation will have a huge impact. Endra's unique value lies in its focus not on simply stacking existing AI models but on solving high-difficulty optimization problems based on deterministic machine learning models.”
Endra's rise is seen as a typical example of the transition of AI technology applications in the construction industry from the experimental stage to substantial design paradigm transformation.
